The former movement expressed epistemological fundamentalism, shared at some point by its most prominent exponents who expressed an explicit belief in the possibility of reaching under the veneer of transitional cultural phenomena or processes in order to obtain positive knowledge about the continuous, ordered base (or deep structures).
